SpeakEasy FA- Everything You Need to Know
Your guide to getting the most out of SpeakEasy
What is SpeakEasy?
SpeakEasy is a communication app designed for nonverbal moments, anxiety, and anyone who sometimes struggles to find words out loud. Tap phrases, build a message, and let the app speak for you.
Who is it for?
Anyone who has ever gone nonverbal, frozen mid-conversation, or needed a way to communicate without speaking. That includes people with anxiety, autism, chronic illness, trauma responses, or anyone who just needs a different way to be heard.
How do I use it?
Choose a category, tap phrases to build your message, then hit Speak All. The app reads your message aloud. You can also type your own phrase anytime.
Can I save my own phrases?
Yes — tap “+ Type something…” and your custom phrases can be saved to your device for quick access later.
Does it work offline?
Yes. SpeakEasy is a PWA — once installed it works without an internet connection.
How do I install it?
On iPhone: open in Safari, tap the Share button, then “Add to Home Screen.” On Android: open in Chrome, tap the three dots menu, then “Add to Home Screen.” It will feel just like a regular app.
What is the contact info section for?
You can save your name and your support person’s contact information directly in the app. This helps anyone who picks up your phone know who you are and who to call if you need help.
Is my information private?
Yes. Everything — your saved phrases, your contact info — stays on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
It’s not speaking. What do I do?
Make sure your volume is turned up and your silent/mute switch is off. SpeakEasy uses your device’s built-in text-to-speech.
Who made this?
